Grandma’s Serving Tray

The inspiration for this one came from a great picture we got of our daughters and nieces on Thanksgiving. I used an AI site that converts photos to coloring book pages (I have used it a bunch in the past for actual coloring book pages for the girls) since I thought it would do a pretty good job of drawing outlines. Then I used ChatGPT to make some edits—removing a stuffed dog one of them was holding and shoes from two of them. Again I had to do a lot of manual work to create the SVG and get everything just right.

I used an engraving bit on the Shaper Origin to cut everything into a piece of 1/2” walnut. Then I built the sides of the tray, using the Shaper for joinery for the first time to make really easy box joints. Man, that tool is awesome. After sanding, I assembled everything and finished it in Rubio Monocoat Pure.
